UIW Athletics Accepts the Resignation of Head Coach Danny Heep

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – University of the Incarnate Word Interim Athletic Director Mark Papich announced Thursday that he has accepted the resignation of Head Coach Danny Heep.

"We appreciate the commitment that Danny has demonstrated over his 20-year tenure as head coach for UIW baseball," Papich said. "He has been a respected member of our community and we wish him the best in his future endeavors."

The Cardinals finished the 2017 season with a 20-36 overall record and an 8-22 mark in Southland Conference play.

After a 13-year Major League Baseball playing career, Heep came to UIW as an assistant coach in 1992, before taking the reins of the program in 1998. He helped the Cardinals to four NCAA Division II Regional appearances and 13 seasons with 30 or more wins. Heep leaves with a career record of 602-475 (.559).

A national search for his replacement will begin immediately.
